Spotted - 1947 Kurtis-Omohundro Comet

Considered by some as the first documented coach-built sports car built in the United States of America after World War II, the Comet is a beautiful work of automotive art.

Spotted - Lamborghini Espada

"Not for sale" says the sign on the windshield of the Espada sitting front and center at the Italian car service shop near my office. I wonder when was the last time it saw the open road.  :-(

Spotted - Lamborghini 400 GT Interim

A Lamborghini 400 GT in the metal. A rare sight even for the rarefied atmosphere of the Puget Sound's East side. As one of a handful (200+) of cars produced it is a very rare sight indeed!

Spotted - 2013 Fiat 500 Abarth

Spotted this Fiat 500 Abarth the other day while at the races. First time I have seen one in the Pacific Northwest. With 160 HP on tap it looks like a fun ride...

Spotted - BMW M1

Classic late 1970's styling by Guigiaro, chassis by Lamborghini, and that fabulous 3.5 liter M88 straight "six". One of the most unique cars ever to wear the BMW badge. One of 456 examples built between 1978 and 1981 so that BMW could homologate the car for racing. And to think I almost didn't show up to the show today! Yes, fit and finish is a bit crude (even by 1980 standards) and the power is nothing to write about compared to today's power plants (273 hp). This car is arguably where the M magic started. What a great opportunity to see first hand this amazing piece of engineering! Never underestimate Seattle's ridiculous wealth to attract the most interesting machinery to our corner of the planet.

Spotted - 1937 White Yellowstone National Park Bus

The White Model 706 open top tour bus, an essential part of the National Park experience in Yellowstone. Designed specifically for use within the National Parks, these busses carried passengers around the park from the mid-1930's to the 1960's. Upgraded versions of this design still roam Yellowstone as well as Glacier National Parks. This particular vehicle was spotted last week at the Paine Field Aviation Day event.

Spotted - 2013 Scion FR-S

Spotted a production version of the new Scion FR-S over the weekend. The nose is a little less agressive than the concept car I saw last September but still a pretty nice job overall!

Spotted - 1990 Ferrari F40

THE ultimate Ferrari of the late 1980's. Some say it is one of the greatest Ferraris ever made. It's styling obviously a case of forms follows function. Not as sexy as the 288 GTO but much better-looking than the F50 that will follow it. Indeed a truly iconic car. Very cool to have had an opportunity to see one first hand!

Spotted - 1971 Citroen DS

A beautiful sample of the Goddess in my nick of the woods! Swiveling headlamps and all. What a treat! First time I've had a chance to examine one in detail. Love it. The highlight however was the great conversation I enjoyed with it's new owner who was also gracious enough to open the hood so I could take a closer look. Thank you!

Spotted - Vector M12

Spotted the mythical Vector M12. Not exactly a timeless design. I think the angular lines of the W8 that was the topic of the iconic 90's posters looked sooo much cooler...

Spotted this nice Scirocco Mk1 this morning. Needs a new coat of paint but otherwise is a nice example of the breed.

When I started this latest trip to Puerto Rico I was hopping to see a Toyota Crown. Just when I had lost hope, there it was, forgotten and rusting away in somebody's front yard...

Spotted - Ford LTD Landau Coupe

Spotted this beautifully preserved third generation Ford LTD Landau Coupe on it's way to the central part of the island of Puerto Rico. A true survivor.

Spotted - 1914 Detroit Electric Priscilla

Detroit Electric was one of the most successful automobile manufacturers back at the turn on the 20th century. It is hard to believe there was a time when the electric car was competitive with it's gas-powered counterpart.

This one sits at the LeMay collection.

Spotted - 1938 Graham Custom

I think it is easy to understand why the 1938 Graham Custom was not a sales success...

BTW, this one is located at the LeMay collection warehouse...

Spotted - 1935 Bugatti Type 57

Here is another classic Bugatti I had a chance to see last summer. I am not sure why I forgot to post these as the machine turning detailing on the engine compartment is just a work of art. It's companion that day can be found on a separate post.

1928 Bugatti Type 44 Roadster

This Type 44 roadster was part of the entourage accompanying the Bugatti Veyron Gran Sport that was exhibited a the Redmond Town Center this past Summer.  Great lines but most of all, I like that beautiful straight eight.

Spotted - 1963 Dodge 330 Max Wedge

Back in 1963 you could order your Dodge 330 with a Ramcharger 426 with either 11.0:1 compression (415 horsepower) or 13.5:1 compression (425 horsepower). More on these monsters at the Max Wedge site...

Spotted - VW T1 Doka Pickups

Volkswagen Type 2 commercial vehicles are very thin on the ground in my nick of the woods. Spotting one that looks this great was a rare treat indeed. I always wondered why pickups and vans are so rare. Now I know is mostly because of the "chicken tax".

Spotted - 1941 Chrysler Newport Dual Cowl Phaeton

This car is one of only five Newport Phaetons built, one of only two built with the retracting headlamps, and one of the first concept cars built by Chrysler. It was great to see it up close this past summer. More about the story of the Newports at the Ridestory site.
