The 1969 Corvette Manta Ray Visits the LeMay Museum

The Manta Ray joined two other historical Corvettes (Mako Shark, and the Stingray Racer) this past weekend to kick off the 60 Years of Corvette exhibit at the LeMay's America's Car Museum. This is a car you rarely hear about but I was quite interesting in it's own right. I was surprised to see the many interesting innovations such as the "panic braking" lights and the interesting "space age"interior that reminded me of the movie 2001 A Space Odyssey.

The 1959 Stingray Racer Visits the LeMay Museum

What a special opportunity it was to see the 1959 Stingray racer up close. It is a unique car that is deeply engrained in Corvette history. It was also the inpiration for the second generation Corvette. It was definitively the highlight of LeMay's America's Car Museum 60 Years of 'Vette celebration. Also on display was the Mako Shark and the Manta Ray. Next stop for this trio is the 2013 Pebble Beach Concour D'Elegance!

Corvette Show Cars - The Mako Shark Visits the LeMay Museum

This weekend was a special one for Corvette enthusiasts as LeMay America's Car Museum hosted three special Corvettes on loan from the GM Heritage Center. We had a great time yesterday looking at these cars up close and I am going to start this series of posts by sharing the Mako Shark. To be honest, I am not a fan of the interior but the body styling and the paint scheme makes it stand out.

Spotted - 1955 Corvette

Spotted this beautiful 1955 Covette at the Portland International Raceway last Sunday. A nice example finished in Harvest Gold. A color that I have never seen before.

Corvette C6 Column Lock Eliminator

With my vette getting older it was just a matter of time before the dreaded steering column lock issue would would become a serious problem. The truth is it has happened to me a few times. Always in hot weather, always at the most inconvenient time. So I finally decommisioned the stupid thing by installing the Column Lock Eliminator offered by Corvettes of Houston. A small electronic component that tells the column module to leave things alone in the column lock. A pretty simple installation that went without a glitch. Hope this small component lasts the life of the car.

Time to burn some rubber!

The plastic bezel came out easily by pulling it gently toward the steering wheel. The brackets that hold it together are clearly visible in this image.

2012 Capital City Vette Fest

Today was all about Corvettes with multiple events in the Puget Sound as well as in other part of the country. This year I choose to stop by the Capital City Vette Fest. My first time to the new Haub Family field of Le May's Americas Car Museum. Although Corvettes of all generation were present there was a significant number of C6 and C5 cars. Not exactly was I was hpping for but still a good opportunity to see how people are modifying their rides these days. Overall, a fun time with good weather in a nice location close to home. Looking forward to come back for the Kirkland Concours d'Elegance comming up in a couple of weeks!

2013 Corvette 60th Anniversary Option Package

Stopped by a car show earlier today only to find a stunning 2013 Corvette equipped with the new 60th Anniversary option package. Stunning car. Love the color combo but most of all, I love the interior. What a step up from the crappy interior of the basic model. Good job GM!

Corvette C6 Radiator Cleaning

The C6 Corvette is a bottom breather. Drive it long enough along our beautiful roads in the Northwest and soon enough you will be hauling around your own collection of road debris. What a mess!

Pulling Stops on My Hurst Shifter

Tonight I opened up the console of the Corvette to take a look at the adjustment of the Hurst short throw shifter. I am trying to see if we can get rid of some of the freaking rattle these make when accelerating hard. The Tremec T56 has internal stops so the ones that come with the shifter are really not needed (so I read). I was going to back them off but in the end I decided to take them off all together. I also took the opportunity to "modify" the button on the parking brake handle to see if I can get it to stop rattling as well. Let's see how that goes.

LS1 Powered BMW 3 Series

I recently came across this BMW 3 Series (E30) sporting an LS1 engine donated by a Corvette. Looks like a tight fit! A very professional looking conversion by a young enthusiast. I bet it sounds awesome.

All Corvette Car Show at the Waterfront Festival - Anacortes, WA

This weekend we had a great time sharing our passion for Corvettes at the annual All Corvette car show in Anacortes. The weather was great. The people were very nice and we got a great spot in the middle of it all. More Pictures on my archives...
