Christmas Memories - The Apollo 5 Speed Muscle Bike

The Holidays are here and for me it is a time to remember times spent with family and those special gifts that we got to enjoy next to our good friends back in the day. Especially those gifts we remember best because they impacted our lives in some special way. The Ross Apollo 5 Speed was one of those for me. Dressed in black with it's long banana seat and a cool speed shifter that could have been at home in any muscle car of the 60's, this bike meant business. More important than that, this cool-looking "muscle bike" was my first ticket to freedom and independence. First with short trips around the block. Then enjoying rides with friends around my community and later on as my vehicle of choice for long rides away from Home. It became a central part of everything we did until we moved on to cars. Good times...

  1. Had the exact same bike and I can completely relate. Loved that darn bike...saw a schwinn ad on facebook where folks can post older images and vintage bikes which prompted me to look for the Apollo! I was born in 1962 for those that a curious just hold old these bikes are! ;-)

  4. I had an Apollo 5-speed when I was a kid. I just updated my facebook page photo with me on it. There used to be a kids tv show where some lucky kid won one each show. When my grandparents bought me mine all the kids at school thought I had won it on the show. Added to my 8-year old kid street cred.
